Anyway, thanks for this beautiful post. My favourite father-dedicated song is Cat Steven's "Father and Son". I love listening to it from time to time and, especially, love discussing the lyrics with my teenage students.
What to say of my father? He's been a very active, hard-working man, he's always faced life with a smile. Even now, that he can't do much any more- after a couple of strokes- he smiles encouraging smiles at us.He loves talking about sports and politics with his sons-in-law and grandsons, and we all can always count on his moral support.Maria Graziahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08876779286144473782noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2201827858670905900.post-86635137722320214602011-06-20T22:11:15.420-05:002011-06-20T22:11:15.420-05:00@Fitzg -- My dad is gone now too. And what a treat to watch your son being a father!
@JaneGS-- Glad you listened to the end of Art Lover. It is a very unusual song which grows on you. I haven't been able to get it out of my head for several days! Nice of you to share your baking with the nursing staff. I really should do something like that for my mother's nurses. They are such special people! Thanks for your comments.Phylly3https://www.blogger.com/profile/10551254554577516351noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2201827858670905900.post-76415695327783293482011-06-20T21:22:55.715-05:002011-06-20T21:22:55.715-05:00I really like the Collin Raye song, especially w d...I really like the Collin Raye song, especially w daughters who are 16 and 18. The Kinks song is so sad--I never would have finished listening to it had you not included the notes.

On a personal note, I gave my mom a box of cookies that she could give the nursing home memory care unit where my dad now lives so that all the residents could have share.JaneGShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11094501834387622997noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2201827858670905900.post-46546494817954623022011-06-20T20:14:07.557-05:002011-06-20T20:14:07.557-05:00Can't say enough about dads. We had the joy and friendship of Dad till his late eighties.

Spent yesterday aft. with son and d-i-l, and the two young step-grandsons. My son is also a lovely dad!

Great fathers are very great gift.

fitzgAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2201827858670905900.post-7151371967794265042011-06-20T19:55:42.269-05:002011-06-20T19:55:42.269-05:00@Traxy - That is very interesting! America since the 1970s. Somehow I thought it was an older tradition than that!
@Calexora - Yes. That picture is just perfectly suited for Father's Day! My post was late because we were at our cottage all weekend and had the inlaws there for supper on Sunday. My husband's father (and my husband) were the Dads we were honouring that day. Mmmm Chocolate icing...! My mother-in-law made the dessert which was blueberry pie! :)Phylly3https://www.blogger.com/profile/10551254554577516351noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2201827858670905900.post-54194032597775579742011-06-20T09:56:19.881-05:002011-06-20T09:56:19.881-05:00I was going to do a Father's Day post too and ...I was going to do a Father's Day post too and use that same RA picture. Funny! In the end I was so busy making an elaborate supper for my dad/parents and then enjoying that meal with them that I ran out of time. I probably won't post it now but it was a great evening with the folks last night. I even made the most divine chocolate icing for the cake, from scratch! I almost went into diabetic shock from it! :D I'll be bringing the extra to work so that I can spread the calories around (my parents were going to take a bit home too but decided to watch their waistlines...this after my dad had three pieces last night :D).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2201827858670905900.post-16584860496954567992011-06-20T08:11:12.396-05:002011-06-20T08:11:12.396-05:00It's not Father's Day in Sweden until some...It's not Father's Day in Sweden until something like the second Sunday in November, so my dad will have to wait a bit longer. ;) On the other hand, it was his birthday recently!Traxyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13249884092846934427noreply@blogger.com
