Yes, it is really August 22! But this was posted in UK time which is 6 hours ahead of me (that is why the date stamp is incorrect).
So... I was thinking about what was going on in England that day 43 years ago when little Richie came in to the world. Oh sure, there was probably a lot on the news and depressing stuff like that, but what I'd like to remember is what was playing on the radio! I looked up UK hits from 1971, and during the month of August it was this song that was the big hit. Even though I consider myself a fairly knowledgeable pop music fan, I had never heard of I'm Still Waiting, by the former Supreme - Diana Ross. Apparently it was huge in Europe and didn't even register on the charts in North America. I have to admit I didn't really like it at first, but after repeated listenings it is growing on me.
This is a nice recording here, but I wanted to include this UK concert footage to show how popular this song is with her fans.
It made me wonder if there is someone waiting for Mr. Armitage, or if he is waiting for someone...
I guess I'm just a romantic at heart, but I wish that everyone will some day find someone to share their love.
August 22 is a special day in the RA fan community. Bloggers and vidders are posting tributes, forum members are hosting virtual get togethers, as the Armitage Army comes together for a birthday bash the likes of which haven't been seen since -- last year! (But it's bigger and even better this year!) This is the third year I have had the honour of sharing this special day with other Armitagemaniacs. Since we are such fans we all know that RA is very interested in making a film with a more historically accurate portrayal of this much maligned English monarch. I wouldn't be surprised if Richard Armitage had a case of travelling blues after flying around the world from England to South Africa to New Zealand and now the United States in such a short space of time!
This British actress is known for playing James Bond's sexy secretary Pussy Galore in the movie Goldfinger. She is noted for being the oldest Bond girl, even older than her male lead. She also starred in the original version of The Avengers as Mrs. Gale, before Emma Peel (played by Diana Rigg) joined the show.
Just look at her smirk in this picture. She can almost smirk as well as a certain actor I know. A certain actor who would make a wonderful James Bond.
5. Valerie Harper, 1939
She may not look familiar to modern audiences, but back in the 1970s when The Mary Tyler Moore Show was must-see TV, Valerie Harper played Mary's wisecracking neighbour, Rhoda Morgenstern. She was so popular that she rated a spin-off series simply called Rhoda which lasted a respectable amount of time. (This was back in the day when spin-offs were not very common, and especially not successful ones!)
Rhoda was sassy and tough, a real women's libber back when they were just inventing the term. But she was also endearing and funny and always entertaining.
Apparently she has a very successful stage career now. But I miss her face on my TV.
4. Ray Bradbury, 1920-2012
This prolific American writer is known most famously for his science fiction novel Farenheit 451 and short story collection The Martian Chronicles. Many of his stories were adapted into television screenplays for The Twilight Zone and his own television show Ray Bradbury Theatre. The story which he credits with making him a true author is called The Lake. It takes place in his home state of Michigan.
Oh! And speaking of Michigan... isn't that where Richard Armitage is now? He is starring in as a teacher (yay!) in a Tornado disaster flick, which was tentatively called Category 6, but I believe is now titled Black Sky.

This french composer created beautiful works for piano and orchestra. The Britannica online encyclopedia states that:

August 22nd is an auspicious day in the world of RA fandom, but it is also famous for another reason. It is the same date as King Richard III of England was killed in battle on Bosworth Field. Perhaps because of this tie to such a famous namesake, Richard has always been keenly interested in this period of history.
If you would like to support Richard's goal of bringing to the screen a new biopic of England's much maligned ruler King Richard III don't forget to sign this petition.
August the 22nd is a special day for fans of the British actor Richard Armitage!
Although I am still struggling to learn how to make videos (so far all I can manage are musical slideshows), I felt the need to make one in honour of the day that my favourite actor of all time was born. Why is he my favourite actor, and what is so wonderful about any actor that would inspire me to make a tribute? That is a topic for another, much more long-winded post! At least his many fans (dubbed the Armitage Army by some long-suffering husband) understand [me] completely!
I have gathered together some pictures of him smiling (as we fans do love to see him happy). So I hope you enjoy my humble slideshow and celebrate the day in anyway you see fit! Natalie over at Richard Amitage Fan Blog will be displaying all the limericks she collected from numerous fans (who enjoy limericking). You can also leave a message for him (we hope he finds time to read them!) at Richard Armitage Net. I am sure there will be many more birthday posts by all his blogger fans. I am definitely going to be watching one (or more) of my growing Richard Armitage DVD collection. Hmmm... maybe I'll go online and order something from my Amazon wishlist, so far I only have one audiobook! THAT sounds like a plan!
