Guy of Gisborne looking snowy |
It has been warmer than usual so far this winter. Many parts of Canada haven't received their usual amount of snowfall. I can't conceive of a Christmas without snow, so please let me share with you some snowy scenes and songs of the season. These two songs were both new to me and are both by very talented young Canadians.
I love the retro sound of this song. It was written and performed by Meaghan Smith who hails from London, Ontario. She has a lovely voice and I find the bouncy, upbeat vibe of this song is very engaging. The video appears to be by and about some university students celebrating a "snow day" when classes are cancelled due to a snow storm. They look like they are really enjoying themselves.
Please click on her name to see Meaghan's webpage where you can read her bio and see some professional videos of her songs.
Snow Day (It Snowed) / by Meaghan Smith
This cover of The Little Drummer Boy is by a 16 year old High School student from Winnipeg, Manitoba named Sean Quigley. He plays all the instruments himself, but especially loves his drums. He also made the video himself with a bit of help in filming by a family member. I love that he used the city of Winnipeg as his backdrop on a perfect snowy day. The last scene from atop a building, showing the skyline is very effective. Also very nice is that he shows friends of his holding up signs which read Merry Christmas in a variety of languages. If you click on his name below you can read more about him in a news article. His video has quickly gone viral.

You may think me a flake, but this is no snow job! Looking closely will make my subject crystal clear.
Now that you are in a flurry of excitement - Here are some good wishes for you!

Those are some very talented young people! And yes you've made everything 'crystal clear' :)
It's been strangely warm here in Italy too. But today it's freezing and windy, perfect pre-Christmas atmosphere.
I was thinking , what about JT in a snowy setting, saying: "Look back, look back at me".
Too melancholic for a Christmas post? ;-)
Happy Christmas season, Phylly. MG
Two really lovely songs and really interesting vids. The first was really cheerful, the other inspiring and hopeful. It is so much like my little brother (he is only 25 - 14 years younger than me)to wear shorts in the winther :-)
Adoooore your flake ;-)
Merry chRistmAs to you.
awh.I love the snowflake one :)
we're still waiting (probably in vain) for White Christmas... will be wet Christmas instead methinks.
Wishing you & yours the happiest of holidays :)
A treasure trove of holiday treats!
Love the songs! BTW, it's been very warm here and not as much snow as well, but no records set. In fact, the last time (mid 1970s) that it was this warm here at this time, and it was a "brown Christmas," the snow didn't stick until the middle of January and then they got three times what they normally received. I'm hoping we don't have a repeat of that!!
But frankly, I could use some warmer weather. Last winter was one of the coldest on record for this area with temperatures on quite a few days in the 50-60 below range, and that was without windchill. Yeah, I think I can use some warmer weather. LOL!
I guess I cut off part of my post where I say that I normally hate Little Drummer Boy. LOL!
@JeannieGisborne - Glad you like the music, and my silliness. ;)
@MG - Luckily there is snow where I live too! I'm glad you are enjoying the season! As for JT, I do love that picture, but I did use it last year in my Christmas Wishes post. http://phyllysfaves.blogspot.com/2010/12/christmas-wishes.html
Here's a nice fanvid I posted last year to put you in the wintery mood by Yorkshirewench: http://phyllysfaves.blogspot.com/2010/12/song-for-winters-night.html
Thanks for stopping by! :)
@Alfie - LOL to your younger brother in shorts in winter! Young people are much more hot-blooded. (But so am I when I look at RA pictures!) Thanks for the compliments!
@TeeTotallyNot - Well, I hope you get some white, fluffy stuff by Christmas Eve! Thank you for the good wishes!
@bccmee-- Thanks so much for the kind words!
@RAFrenzy - Goodness! That really IS super cold temperatures for ANYWHERE! Wishing you a much milder Christmas with a nice, light dusting of snow!
As for the Drummer Boy, yes, that song can be quite annoying (in certain versions) but this guy plays it with such passion and originality - it is a pleasure to watch and listen to him! :)
Snow, lovely snow!!! Great RA snowflake, BTW!
@mulubinba - Why thank you! I hope that white stuff cools you down a little. Thanks for visiting!
